60+ Swanky Peanut Butter Desserts

We are so obsessed with Peanut Butter Desserts that we decided to bring all our favorites together in one place.

Obsession might be too strong a word. But then again, maybe not? We Americans just can’t seem to get enough of the stuff.

It all started back in the 1800s when John Harvey Kellogg of cereal fame filed a patent for the first modern peanut butter, according to Smithsonian Magazine. When meat was rationed during World War I, peanut butter became a popular alternative. As we know, peanut butter is a great source of protein.

In the 1920s hydrogenation was developed to keep the oil from separating, giving peanut butter a much longer shelf life. It could then be shipped across the country plus stored in warehouses. That settled it. Everyone who wanted it could have peanut butter. Everyone did.

Americans have come to love it so much that we can’t seem to get enough.

According to the National Peanut Board (sounds like the beginning of a joke), our per capita consumption of it is 4.4 pounds a year (no joke either). That means those of us who eat peanut butter probably eat more than that to make up for all those who aren’t pulling their weight. Ahem.
