What is Cinnamon?

You wouldn’t think that gnawing on tree bark could be so delicious, but that’s exactly what we’re doing when we eat cinnamon. 😳

Cinnamon, or Cinnamomum verum, is a bushy tree in the laurel family that grows up to 50 feet tall. It is native to Sri Lanka but is now also grown in South American and the West Indies. That trademark taste and aroma that we love comes from the inner bark, which is harvested and dried to preserve it for our enjoyment.

Tree bark or not, we are huge fans of cinnamon here at Swanky. We have gathered up some of our favorite recipes here, everything from kettle corn to cinnamon rolls — which deserve a roundup of their own (stay tuned).

It’s more amazing than most basic apple crisp recipes because there’s a little something extra in the topping: crushed up graham crackers. Seriously, it makes all the difference!

cinnamon kettle corn

Cinnamon Kettle Corn: I have a serious soft spot for Kettle Corn. I’m even on board with the diet-y microwave kettle corn (which my husband hates). But the real stuff? Ad when it’s fresh? With the sugary, crusty, crunchy coating on each buttery kernel? I added cinnamon to this recipe, and it totally adds a new dimension of flavor! But honestly, I think you could just make it a plain kettle corn batch and it would still rock your socks.

white chocolate cinnamon fudge

White Chocolate Cinnamon Fudge: Cinnamon chips, white chocolate chips, and condensed milk. What’s not to love here? This is so smooth and velvety, sweet and cinnamon-y. You have to try it. SO , SO good. Makes a great gift, too!
