Cherry Coke Jello Recipe: A Fun Cola Jell-O Salad

By Ashton · Updated October 3, 2026

ohmygoshyouguys. I have been SO excited to share this cherry coke jello recipe with you guys for weeeeeeeeks!!!!!

So…

I love cherry Coke. And cherry Diet Coke. I am basically obsessed, and I regret nothing.

And Jell-O is pretty awesome too, right? Especially in the summertime, when every holiday table needs something cold, wobbly, and fun. This isn’t your grandma’s cherry fluff salad, but it’s definitely got that same nostalgic, retro recipe charm.

Well, as it turns out, you can substitute Coke or Cherry Coke (or Pepsi, if you swing that way) for the water in the standard jello powder recipe, annnnnnnd….. VOILA! Your very own cherry coca-cola jello salad, aka the easiest cherry cola jello salad you’ll ever make!

The Cherry Coke Jello Recipe Obsession

I actually followed the recipe for Jell-O “jigglers” on the box instead of just the plain old jello, because I thought these little cubes would look awesome for photos. But you could follow either set of instructions on the box using the cola substitution, and it would turn out tasting great! This is seriously one of those tasty treat recipes that feels fancy but takes almost zero effort.

Now…. just think of the possibilities! Or don’t, and I can point them out for you:

Try subbing soda for the water in a Jell-O recipe... so many possibilities! somethingswanky.com*See Orange Swizzle

See? So much fun! And you can easily sub in diet soda and sugar free jello for a low sugar, low cal treat! Just follow the instructions on the jello box (but not the quick-set recipe calling for ice cubes), subbing the exact cups of liquid for water, and you’ll be just fine.

Cherry Coke Jello Recipe Variations

I’ve made this a few times in different variations, and we LOVE it (speaking of which, check out these sparkling cider jello shots, so festive)! This particular version is SO SIMPLE because it’s literally just subbing the soda for the water in the recipe. Nothing else! If you want to really lean into that cherry flavor, toss in some tart cherries, dark sweet cherries, or even sweet bing cherries once the gelatin mixture starts to set.

(PS- the recipe I’m including in this post is for JIGGLERS. Feel free to use the other “normal” recipe on the box if you’d rather; it’s a tiny bit less work).

Making It A Real Cherry Coke Jello Salad

If jigglers aren’t your thing and you want something more like a proper cherry coke jello salad for family gatherings, just pour the gelatin mixture into a glass pan or jello mold instead of cutting it into cubes. Stir in some crushed pineapple or fresh pineapple, a handful of maraschino cherries, and chill until firm. Once it’s set, spread a layer of cream cheese and cool whip on top for the ultimate finishing touch — it instantly turns plain cherry gelatin into a real fruit salad situation that’ll be the star of any family dinner or holiday meal.

Honestly, this cherry coke salad is basically the jello cousin of frog eye salad — sweet, a little retro, and always a conversation starter on the dinner table. I love serving it in a big glass serving bowl or serving dish so everyone can see those pretty red layers and the cherries peeking through.

Tips For The Best Cherry Coke Jello Salad

A few quick tips to make sure yours turns out like a truly good jello salad every single time: always dissolve your cherry gelatin completely in hot liquid before adding the cold soda, or you’ll end up with grainy spots instead of that silky, dreamy texture we’re going for. If you’re using a bundt pan or any fancy gelatin mold, spritz it first with a little cooking spray so the jello salad recipe releases cleanly onto your serving plate. And don’t rush the canning process-style patience this dessert requires — gelatin needs real time in the fridge, usually four hours or more, to fully set.

Leftovers (if you have any!) keep beautifully in an airtight container in the fridge for up to three days, which makes this a genuinely great make-ahead side dish or dessert for busy weeks. I also love topping individual servings with crunchy pecans for a little crunch against all that soft, jiggly sweetness — trust me, that first bite with the pecan crunch is *chef’s kiss*. For more fruity, jiggly inspiration, check out this fruit salad favorite or browse through some of our other gelatin salads for new recipes to try.

This whole thing started because an old cookbook reminded me that cherry syrup and cherry soda used to be a totally normal dessert base, and I’m so glad that tradition is making a comeback. Whether you call it a cherry coke jello salad, a cherry cola jello salad, or just “that amazing jiggly stuff,” it’s proof that pineapple juices and fruit juices belong in jello just as much as plain water ever did. 1. I have been making this for years and you will also find that it’s very good when you add some ice cream..
I usually do the ice cream mixed in when i am having company and it’s my salad served on a big lettuce leaf. I usually do it with something heavy such as lasagna or chicken divan. I am in my 80’s and been collecting recipes for many years and now have over 100,000 of them from friends , relatives and neighbors dating back to the depression. . Two chefs in the family, my mom being one of them growing up on a farm with 9 kids. Try it with the ice cream mixed in, you won’t be disappointed.

  2. Oh yes, another Coke treat I can eat. Funny I should find this now as I’ve got a coke campaign I need to do and I was wondering what coke treat I could make. It’s like a match made in heaven.

However, I’m pretty sure we don’t have cherry jelly (jello) here. I guess I’ll have to use unflavoured gelatine and use LorAnne’s cherry flavouring with it and the Coke. Thanks for the inspiration, Ashton.
