You won’t want to eat banana bread any other way again! What Makes This the Best Banana Bread What kind of a banana person are you? My husband likes them still green — which completely grosses me out. I like mine a little bit speckled and sweet but still firm. Actually, what I really like is when they’re about 3 days past their prime with a good amount of brown spots, practically begging to be mashed bananas in a large bowl. Overripe bananas are literally the secret to the best banana bread, you guys. More sugar content, more banana flavor, more everything. Brown Sugar Banana Streusel Bread — Next Level Sweet Bread This cinnamon streusel banana bread is a tweak on my very favorite moist banana bread recipe. I swapped all the white sugar for dark brown sugar to really up the moist factor — hello, classic banana bread dreams! — and layered in a coffee cake-style streusel that is straight-up ah-mazing. Think banana coffee cake vibes but in loaf form. The smell of sweet banana bread baking with that crunchy streusel topping? Be still my heart. I literally can’t even. How to Make the Crumbly Streusel Topping The streusel recipe is super simple! In a medium bowl, cut cold butter into all-purpose flour (purpose flour fans, this is your moment!), dark brown sugar, and teaspoon cinnamon until you get small clumps — that crumbly streusel texture is the best texture combo. Use softened butter if you want it a little more clumped, cold butter if you want it sandy and crumble streusel topping-style. Either way, it is delicious food. In a separate bowl, whisk your dry ingredients, then combine your wet ingredients — melted butter, sour cream, a large egg, and vegetable oil — in a small bowl. Mix wet mixture into the flour mixture using a wooden spoon or hand mixer. Don’t overmix, friends! Baking Your Banana Streusel Bread Line your 9×5-inch loaf pan with parchment paper — leave a 1-inch overhang on the long sides — and hit it with nonstick cooking spray. Spoon half of the batter into the prepared pan, then sprinkle half of the streusel right over it. Pour batter (the remaining batter!) on top, then sprinkle streusel — the remaining streusel — over the top of the banana bread. The top of the loaf will bake up golden brown and gloriously crackly. Bake until moist crumbs cling to a toothpick. Cool on a wire rack (cooling rack life!). For gifting, wrap the entire loaf in aluminum foil or tuck it in a brown paper bag — it stores beautifully in an airtight container too. See the full recipe card below for all the details!
