Coffee & Donuts Cake Shake {gameday traditions with twist!} Recipe posted by Staff Writer Pin Share Tweet Email Jump to Recipe We are pretty excited for football season around here! We’re pretty major BYU fans, as many of you know. But this year, we’re also SVU fans! My husband goes to school at Southern Virginia University, and this year my brother and his wife transferred to SVU too! My brother is playing on the football team, and we are super excited to get to see him play! I actually didn’t even get to see him play in high school since I was away at college. But I’ve been told he is quite the hometown football legend, and I’m really looking forward to getting to watch him this season. An added bonus: this (supposedly) means more visits from the family this Fall! My dad gets a little cray-cray about my brother’s football career, and I think he’s made sure he can attend almost every game. Which means more Grandma and Grandpa time for us (yay)! My husband is a football (and all sports, in general) fanatic. When we first met, I asked him who his favorite team was. In my mind, you had one college team (in my case, BYU) that you cheered for across the board. Maybe two if they were on opposite sides of the country or something. He looked at me like I had three heads and said, “well…. what do you mean? Like which sport? Pro? College? Which division? Which league? Which conference? I’m not sure I really understand this question…” In other words: we have very different perspectives on sports. And of all the sports my husband loves, football is the one that I understand the very least. But, football season is still one of my very favorite times of the year, because I love simply the tradition of watching football with my family. I love getting all dressed up in our team gear and cheering in the stands together (although, it makes me miss my Provo terribly). And when we’re home, I love curling up on a crowded couch with blankets and root beer and plates of treats! This season, we’re adding a little twist to our traditional game-day treats table: milkshakes with Tastykakes Mini Donuts!! Tastykakes provided me with some AMAZING looking recipes to try out, and The Cake Shake really caught my eye! Their Cake Shake uses vanilla ice cream and Tastykakes Butterscotch Krimpets (YUM!), but I thought it would be a lot of fun to try the same recipe using the Tastykakes Mini Donuts in place of the Krimpets. I also used coffee ice cream instead of vanilla. I’m not a coffee drinker myself, but I hear donuts and coffee are sort of an item, right? They certainly are in this milkshake! So. good. Tastykakes has been in the business of delivering the simple happiness of fresh-baked goodness since 1914! Everything they bake is made with quality ingredients and delivered fresh. I think my favorite Tastykakes are the Mini Donuts (what can I say? I’m a donut girl at heart), but I also really love their line of Kandy Kakes. Check out this Peanut Butter Kandy Kakes Chess Pie I made earlier this year! No matter which team you’re rooting for this year, the whole family will love including Tastykakes in your game-day traditions!
