Chocolate PB Protein Smoothie with Slim Fast Recipe

Can  we talk about a Chocolate PB Protein Smoothie — with Slim Fast? Yes, we can. But first…

Every weekend I write a Skinny Saturday post. It’s my time of the week to let my readers know how my weight loss endeavors are going. And I usually share a ‘Skinny’ recipe, which is a lot of fun. The reason I started doing this was to hold myself more accountable to someone. Anyone. Even if it’s a few hundred thousand people I’ve never met! It has been awesome, and I love the opportunity to discuss my weight loss with such a supportive community. However, this is not a Skinny Saturday post.

I don’t want to talk about how I want to be energetic enough to run around with my crazy 3 year-old. I don’t want to talk about my cholesterol. And, under no circumstances do I want to discuss my horrible, rotten, no good, very bad plantar fasciitis condition that keeps me from running off the calories (I loathe my foot). Today I want to get something a little different off my chest and come right out and say: some days I just want to be skinny!

Is it so bad that I’m dying to fit into the brand new green chinos I bought years ago in a size too small (well, almost two sizes too small now) instead of thinking about my risk of heart disease? Or that I’d kill for a day at the beach during which I didn’t have to distract myself from thinking about the dimples on my thighs? And that one of my dreams is to be able to sit through a car ride without having to adjust my jeans a billion times because they’re pinching at my waist?

The thought of just being able to “throw on” whichever outfit I grab from my closet in the morning, and know that it will fit comfortably is absolutely mesmerizing, and some days I actually day dream about it. More than anything, I’d really like to stop dreaming about being skinny and actually live it.

But hey, what kind of life am I living when there’s no chocolate involved?!? Enter: Slim-Fast.

Slim-Fast is an old friend of mine. We’ve spent the month before prom together, the month before my wedding, and we’ve even done a little beach time. It’s my go-to short term weight loss pal. And when I had the opportunity to be a part of a Slim-Fast campaign, I was happy to participate! At the moment, I’m actually in the middle of a cleanse of sorts.

I’ll talk more about it on Skinny Saturday once I’m back from all of my June travels. (I hope you’re still there!). But basically I’ve (cold turkey) given up carbs and sugar for a few weeks. It’s painful and grueling but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel.

It’s sort of an exercise in self-control, and when it’s done, the next step is to find a way to keep myself control while allowing some of the sweet stuff back into my life. Because I don’t want to live one way or the other.

I don’t want to only feel healthy and skinny when I’m only eating vegetables and lean protein. I want some chocolate in my life (I just don’t want chocolate to be my entire life).
That’s why I like Slim-Fast so much.

It’s designed for chocoholics who need a little structure in their diet. In their 3-2-1 plan you simply replace 2 of your meals with one of their yummy products and then eat a reasonable 500 calorie 3rd meal, with a total of 3 healthy snacks in between. One of my favorite ways to enjoy a Slim-Fast is with a frozen banana and a dollop of peanut butter. It’s decadent enough to be dessert, but with lots of protein and fiber to keep me feeling full until the next meal!

  1. I do the same thing with clothes! I have a stack of capris that are about 2 sizes too small right now and would love to get in them this summer!

  2. I want to loose weight of course to be healthy and be around for my 4 kids, but I really want to wear trendy cute clothes and feel good in them.

  3. Totally not a bad thing to want to be skinny! That is one of the things I want too! But for me, my biggest motivation is Jack. I want to be in good shape so I can run around with him, and be around for a long time. Heart disease and breast cancer runs in my family, and I’m scared that if I don’t maintain a lower weight and healthy lifestyle, I will fall victim tomonenofnthose things. Also, I want to lose weight before we have another baby. That won’t be for awhile but I’d like to be at a lower weight at that point. I was lucky and only gained about 10 pounds but I don’t know how lucky i will be next time!

    And slim fast is awesome!

  6. My silliest reason why I want to shed some pounds, quick? Well, my kids had been asking me to take them to the beach because it’s getting so hot here in CA. But…I can’t quite convince myself getting into that swimsuit looking like 3 months pregnant….when my baby’s due date was 4 years ago! LOL…wish me luck. I’m off to get some slim fast first thing in the morning!

  7. I want to lose weight to have more confidence! I just started physician assistant school and know no one wants advice on losing weight from someone who is overweight! I want to lose weight so my patients feel inspired to better their lives and lose weight as well! 🙂

  8. I don’t think wanting to lose weight to boost yourself esteem is a silly reason at all!! I think everyone has their own reasons and as long as you’re approaching weight loss in a healthy way, that’s all that really matters. And as for your pants….. GIRL let me tell you. I have about 6 pairs of very expensive jeans from my freshman year of college that no longer fit that I just can’t give away because one day! And my pants are held together with a safety pin right now because using the actual button just pinches too much!!

  9. The silly reason why I’m trying to lose weight? Because all of my friends are having babies and are back to their skinny selves in 4-6 months and I have a 2 1/2 year old and am still 50lbs overweight. ugh…..

  10. I would like to get rid of about 20 pounds to just feel better and look better. I too have clothes I would like to wear.

  11. Oh do I have some dimples in my thighs and my butt! I’m a curvy girl naturally which my husband loves and I sometimes despise, but my question is why doesn’t Beyonce or JLO have dimples? They are super curvy too and they are even slightly bigger than I am? In what universe is this fair??? I did want to ask, have you tried My Fitness Pal? I can’t remember if I’ve read that you tried it or not, but I’ve been doing it religiously since March, (as of today, I’ve logged in 95 days in a row, holla) and I’ve really found it helpful, especially since I just had my 3rd baby in December and I’ve been working my butt off since Feb to lose the weight I gained. As of today (also) I’ve lost 8 lbs, tracking everything I’m eating and seeing how many calories I burn in my workouts. If you haven’t tried it, you should. I just love it!! And don’t worry, you will get to your ideal weight! It takes time, but your becoming stronger and more amazing just working at a healthier lifestyle-that is something to be proud of. The hardest part is making the decision to get healthy. 🙂 Keep up the great work, Ashton!!!

  12. Losing weight is always a battle for me. I always worry about diabetes since it runs in the family. If I lose enough it may help ward off this issue. My body just moves better when I have less weight to carry. My clothes fit better also. I have clothes in many sizes. My husband wonders why I don’t get rid of them. Only we know the real answer to that.

  13. I just feel more energetic and happy when I’m in a certain weight range. 5-10 lbs higher is very noticeable in energy and attitude. I workout a lot and am doing my first marathon this fall but as you age it gets harder every year. I can easily feel defeated and just want to buy a Muumuu and eat whatever!

  14. Mine is pretty simple, really- I’ll be having a baby in only two weeks, and I’ll need to get back in shape! This would be great. 🙂

  15. I had lost 110 pounds but then hurt my back at work and my exercise routine went out the window… Now I am back to needing to loose 40 to get back to my goal.

  16. My silliest reason? I have this really cute vintage skirt that I want to be able to wear again! I have other clothes that are snug but that that skirt is my goal!

  17. So the silly reason I want to loose weight is… I want to be able to play with my grandchildren again and be able to hide in cool places when we play hide and seek.

  18. I can’t fit into my old clothes any more, and can’t afford to buy more. So I figure if I lose weight by eating less, I will fit into my clothes AND spend less on groceries. I will be skinnier and richer! A win-win situation!

  19. Hmm, where to begin….. Some days I am okay with being above average with my size and some days I am not. There is always a reason to lose weight and a reason not to, you have to be ready. I am officially ready to make the change. Not for my friends, my enemies, my spouse or my appearance to others… this time it is about me!

  20. My silliest reason to lose weight is to fit into a pair of cute hand me down jeans and THEN to wear said jeans with a just-a-lot-too-small college hoody when I attend football games next fall. That’s it.

  22. I never have silly reasons to lose weight. I lose weight because I want to be a hot mama. Actually, I told my son I’d be “mini” and he got excited because he thinks I am going to turn into “Minnie Mouse.”

  23. The reason I am most ashamed of is to impress others. What others think of me should not matter and now it does not matter, but at one point it did and that makes me sad.

  24. I think my silliest reason was to impress someone. I have since learned that the only way to lose weight and keep it off is to do it entirely for yourself so that you feel better.

  25. my main motivation is the health benefits of working out…I am not looking to lose weight just to be able to outrun my hubby :)))

  26. I’d love to be able to be confident enough to go out swimming with the family. There’s a Great Wolf Lodge nearby and my daughter has been wanting to go. *sigh* I miss swimming.

  28. I am only looking to watch what I eat a bit more. Less processed foods, less eating out. I also need to get better about exercising. It is just so hard when it’s 100 degrees outside!

  29. My silly reason? My weight gain has been due to poor choices. No baby weight to blame, no physical reason, just sheer laziness. It’s easier to grab a quick frozen dinner or go through the drive through than to cook a well balanced meal. It’s easier to sit in front of the computer or TV than to exercise.
I want to be able to say I finally made good decisions.
