  • butter
  • brown sugar
  • eggs
  • all-purpose flour
  • old fashioned oats
  • semi-sweet chocolate chips

Recipe Tips & Notes

  • Every time I make these cookies, I think– too much oatmeal! These cookies are going to be so dense and tough! I promise, they’ll be just right. Just follow the recipe as it’s written, and you’ll have delicious oatmeal chocolate chip cookies!
  • Press a few chocolate chips into the tops of the cookies after they bake. It pretties them up a bit and makes them look so much more appealing. We eat with our eyes first, right?!
  • We almost always substitute half of the chocolate chips with M&MS. So good!!

Mom's Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

Yield: approximately 3 dozen
Prep Time: 15 minutes
Cook Time: 10 minutes
Total Time: 25 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 1/4 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 tsp vanilla
  • 1 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 1/2 cups old fashioned oats
  • 2 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350ºF.
  2. Beat butter and brown sugar until smooth.
  3. Add eggs one at a time, mixing in between additions. Add milk and vanilla. Mix until creamy.
  4. Add all-purpose flour, oats, baking soda, and salt. Mix until dough forms and fold in the chocolate chips.
  5. Spoon heaping tablespoons (or use a cookie scoop) on to a greased (or lined) baking sheet.
  6. Bake for 9-11 minutes, until edges turn golden brown and the center of the cookie is set.
  7. Let cool on the baking sheet.
