One of the (many) things I love about Memorial Day is that it reminds me that the 4th of July is right around the corner. I always need a gentle nudge to start testing July desserts and sharing easy recipes with you guys well ahead of the actual holiday. Otherwise, I’ll totally forget. Because that’s how my brain operates these days. πŸ˜‚

I’ve been wanting to make one of these cute flag fruit pizzas FOREVER, and we finally got around to it! I loved that my daughter could help. I outlined the pattern of the flag in the frosting (just because I’m a control freak β€” she totally could have done it herself), and she placed the berries down. And, okay, fine. I was twitching a little bit on the inside when she didn’t put the blueberries in nice, orderly rows. But it’s cool. We good. I survived.

Never mind that she kept saying, “Mooooommmmmmm, I think I’m going to drop it! Mom!!!!” Over and over again. And I’m all, “Just hold still! You’re doing great! Mommy needs just one more shot!” Truly the realest real-life baking content. πŸ˜…

Why You’ll Absolutely Love This Fourth of July Fruit Pizza

Can we talk about how this dessert pizza is basically everything? It’s a red, white, and blue fruit pizza that doubles as edible patriotic art. The soft sugar cookie base is tender and golden brown, the cream cheese layer is fluffy and dreamy, and the fresh berries on top are SO juicy and vibrant. It’s the great addition to any fourth of july celebration, Memorial Day cookout, or honestly even a baby shower β€” it’s that pretty. If you love easy 4th of July dessert recipes, this one absolutely needs to be on your list next week and every summer after that!

The Best Ingredients for This American Flag Fruit Pizza

Here’s the thing β€” this american flag fruit pizza comes together with super simple ingredients. For the crust, you can use store-bought sugar cookie dough (Pillsbury sugar cookie doughs from your local grocery store work great!) or your own sugar cookie recipe with all-purpose flour and vanilla extract. Either way gives you that soft sugar cookie crust we’re going for. For the cream cheese mixture, you’ll need room temperature cream cheese, powdered sugar, a splash of lemon juice, a little lemon zest if you’re fancy, and cool whip or whipped topping folded right in. That fluffy topping is literally everything. Then pile on fresh strawberries, fresh blueberries, and rows of raspberries for that gorgeous flag look! Those juicy berries and fresh fruit toppings are what make this a blue dessert dreams are made of. πŸ“πŸ’™

How to Make This Fruit Pizza Fourth of July Recipe

First, heat oven according to your sugar cookie mix or store-bought dough directions. Press your dough in an even layer onto a large round pizza stone, pizza pan, or baking sheet lined with a sheet of parchment paper β€” a sheet pan works perfectly too! Bake until light brown and just golden brown on the edges, then let it cool completely. While it cools, beat your cream cheese topping: in the bowl of an electric mixer with the paddle attachment on low speed, mix room temperature cream cheese, powdered sugar, lemon juice, and lemon zest in a medium bowl until smooth. Fold in cool whip for that irresistible fluffy topping. Spread the cream cheese mixture across your cooled pizza crust in an even layer. Now for the fun part β€” arrange fresh strawberries in rows to create the red stripes (white stripes in between!), fresh blueberries in the upper corner for the blue section, and rows of raspberries for extra red. Use a piping bag with a star tip for detail if you’re feeling extra! This fruit cookie pizza recipe is so satisfying to decorate. β€οΈπŸ€πŸ’™

Tips for the Best Texture and Making Ahead

A few pro tips for this sugar cookie fruit pizza! For the best texture, make sure your cream cheese is fully at room temperature before mixing β€” lumpy cream cheese layer = sad face. You can totally make this next day; just store the baked cookie crust in an airtight container and add the cream cheese topping and fresh berries the day of serving so everything stays gorgeous. If you want mini fruit pizzas instead, use a star cookie cutter to cut individual cookie stars β€” so cute for a fourth of july celebration! You can also swap in your favorite fruits if strawberries and blueberries aren’t your thing β€” our classic fruit pizza recipe has great options for any combo you love. And if you’re into a little extra wow factor, a swirl of marshmallow creme under the cream cheese topping is ah-mazing. Check out the full recipe card below for all the details!
