This recipe for decorated cut-out Chocolate Sugar Cookies is really easy, and the cookies are soft and delicious! No chill-time involved (yay!), no spreading (double yay!), and this is a great recipe to keep in your back pocket for the holidays.

I’m going to show you how to make Halloween Skeleton Cookies in this post, but you could also use this recipe for your Christmas cookie plates. You can find my go-to vanilla sugar cookies (no chill, no spread) right here.

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375ºF.
  2. Beat together the butter and sugar until creamy, scraping down the sides as needed.
  3. Mix in the oil and the egg.
  4. Add the flour, cornstarch, cocoa powder, vanilla, and salt.
  5. Mix on medium until dough forms. It may take several minutes for the mixture to go from crumbles to large pieces of dough that stick together. If it takes longer than 5 minutes, add 1 tablespoon of milk at a time until stiff dough forms.
