Something Swanky Blog Hop #4: Pinterest

Ah, Pinterest. I love, love, love Pinterest.

In case you aren’t familiar with Pinterest– I’ll give you a super-brief overview. It’s a “virtual pinboard.” Which means, as you’re surfing the internet (ie, browsing through billions of delicious recipes you find at link parties), you can “pin” a page to one of your “boards.” It’s nice because you never have to leave the page you’re on, and you know it’s there for you to come back to later (like when it’s time to bake!).

It’s also a fabulous time-waster. You can browse through tons of other people’s pins– either pins that your friends have posted or pins that complete strangers have posted within a certain category (like desserts)! Sort of like Stumble, but a little more productive– because when you “pin” something, you make a mental commitment to come back to it later and DO whatever you pinned. Which makes it very goal-oriented, right? Right.

So how does this fit in with social networking and promoting your blog? Like any other social media network, it helps to make friends. The more friends you have, the more people who see your pins. And while no one wants to follow someone who ONLY pins their own blog posts, it seems to be perfectly acceptable to create a board to display your own creations. Which means: lots of pins = lots of followers = more people viewing your STUFF linked back to your blog. Pinterest is my second greatest generator of blog traffic (just under Stumble… ok, WAY under Stumble, but still #2).

You’ll need to already have a Pinterest account to participate in today’s Blog Hop. If you don’t have one, that’s ok– just let me know and I’ll send you an invite, and you can come back later and pin away!
There are two parts (you’ll link up TWO DIFFERENT URLS) to this Hop– I’d like for you to participate in both, but feel free to do one or the other.

1. Link up your Blog’s main page, AND link up your Pinterest page.
2. Click around and find something to PIN from everyone’s blog onto one of your boards, and then FOLLOW everyone else on Pinterest.

Have fun! And thanks for participating!!!
