Indoor Gourmet S’mores
This post has been sponsored by HERSHEY’S + Jet Puffed + Honey Maid. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
With flavors like Cookies & Cream, Chocolate Covered Strawberry, and Fluffernutter, I think you’ll agree that any summer get-together is the perfect time for these Indoor Gourmet S’mores!
Chris and I have been trying to get a little more creative with our date nights lately. In an effort to be more budget conscious, we oftentimes skip the babysitter and opt to stay at home for dates. In the past, an at-home date night invariably meant ordering a pizza and spending about 3 hours curled up in front of the TV before calling it a night and heading up the stairs for bed. It was fine– but not really “date night” material, you know?
So I came up with 30 at-home, budget friendly dates that go beyond watching TV and “having a living room picnic.” Don’t worry– I’ll share them all with you another time. But today I’m sharing one of our yummiest at-home date night ideas: Indoor Gourmet S’mores. We don’t have a fire pit at our house *yet*, so outdoor roasting was out of the question. But I found the PERFECT way to roast marshmallows in your very own kitchen! Today I’m going to share all the details for putting together your very own Gourmet S’mores night without even leaving your house. We love eating s’mores all the time, and this will make it easier to have them after any nightly dinner!
Ready to get started?
First things first– head to your local Walmart and stock up on everything you need for s’mores. You’ll need the obvious necessities, of course: HONEYMAID HONEY Grahams, HERSHEY’S 6-Pack Chocolate Bars, and Jet Puffed Marshmallows.
And be sure to pick up the extras that make these GOURMET S’MORES extra special!
You probably already have most of this stuff in your pantry, but here’s a list in case you need to pick anything up while you’re at Walmart:
- vanilla frosting
- rainbow chips (or other rainbow sprinkles)
- chocolate sandwich cookies
- peanut butter
- marshmallow fluff
Want to know how to roast the PERFECT marshmallows indoors?
Ok, so you’ve probably seen marshmallows roasted under the broiler in an oven. Right? Every search I did for “how to roast marshmallows inside” pulled up a dozen tutorials for marshmallows placed right under the broiler, browned, and flipped to broil on the other side.
Which is fine. That works okay. But I found that broiling my marshmallows on the top rack right under the broiler didn’t give the marshmallows enough time in the oven to get really gooey and melty on the insides even though the outsides looked perfectly roasted. I was also really dissatisfied with the how little these broiled marshmallows were able melt the chocolate. Since the marshmallows didn’t seem to get heated all the way through, they just weren’t hot enough.
After a little trial and error, I found the secret to PERFECT oven-roasted marshmallows that are crispy golden on the outside, totally melted on the inside, warm enough to melt the chocolate, and as an added bonus: no flipping!
HOW TO ROAST MARSHMALLOWS IN THE OVEN:
STEP 1: Place the HONEYMAID HONEY Grahams on a baking sheet and top each one with a Jet Puffed Marshmallow.
STEP 2: Place the oven rack in the MIDDLE of the oven and turn the broiler on. Broil the marshmallows until golden!
Moving the rack to the middle of the oven is THE KEY to roasting these marshmallows to perfection. We’re still using the broiler, so we’ll get that golden, crispy exterior. But since the marshmallows aren’t right under the broiler, they stay in the oven a little bit longer, which gives the insides time to get all nice and gooey!
This is the reason it is also imperative to broil the marshmallows on top of the graham crackers. Otherwise, they are too gooey to easily remove from the baking sheet.
STEP 3: Press a piece of a HERSHEY’S Chocolate Bar into each roasted marshmallow. Return the baking sheet to the oven for about 10 seconds.
Ta-da! That’s how you make a perfect indoor s’more, folks. Now let’s dress them up a little ????.
Quick & Easy Ideas for Gourmet S’mores
Chocolate Covered Strawberry S’mores
Add sliced strawberries to the top of the HERSHEY’S Chocolate Bar (this will be “the bottom”). Add a second piece of HERSHEY’S Chocolate Bar to another HONEYMAID HONEY Grahams square (this will be “the top”). Place the top on a cookie sheet and return to the oven for 10 seconds.
Sandwich together the top and the bottom to create the Chocolate Covered Strawberry S’more.
Cookies & Cream S’mores
Spread vanilla frosting on a graham cracker square and press it into the chocolate cookie crumbs (this is “the top”).
Sandwich together the top and the bottom to create the Cookies & Cream S’more. You can also use HERSHEY’S Cookies & Cream Bars for an added delicious flavor!
Even though we already have a roasted Jet-Puffed Marshmallow in a s’more– is a Fluffernutter really a Fluffernutter without marshmallow cream?! Nope. So spread a HONEYMAID HONEY Grahams square with marshmallow cream and peanut butter (this will be “the top”). Don’t forget the HERSHEY’S Chocolate Bar!
Sandwich together the top and the bottom to create the Fluffernutter S’more.
Birthday Cake S’more
Spread vanilla frosting on a HONEYMAID HONEY Grahams cracker square and add rainbow chips to the frosting (this is “the top”).
Sandwich together the top and the bottom with a Jet Puffed Marshmallow and HERSHEY’S Chocolate Bar to create the Birthday Cake S’more.
Making Indoor S’mores at any Summer Get-Together
One of the best parts about making indoor s’mores is that you can make a large quantity at one time. So there’s no waiting for someone to finish with a marshmallow stick and no fighting over that one perfect spot for roasting. You can fit 9-12 s’more “bottoms” on a typical baking sheet.
Set out all the extra toppings in a buffet line or family style at the table. Let everyone custom-make their own “tops,” so that each person gets their own individualized, perfect s’more! This would be such a fun at-home group date night or even for a special family treat.
No matter which toppings you choose, be sure to shop for your favorites at Walmart.
