There is no feeling like operating a cordless kitchen appliance. The freedom that comes from being able to maneuver an appliance without feeling the constant limitation of a wire removes a layer of stress from whatever you’re doing.

And I know it might sound hyperbolic, but I really do believe cordless kitchen appliances are the way of the future when it comes to cooking.

That’s why I put together this post of the six wireless kitchen appliances I’ve used that I think every chef should have on hand.

6 Cordless Appliances You Need In Your Kitchen

Usually, I write posts about a specific type of appliance and put the best models of that product type in a handy list. I’m switching it up this time, though.

Since I love cordless kitchen appliances so much, allow me to geek out for a few hundred words and talk about some wireless models of different appliance types that you should really have around.

I’ll list the products in a table and then go into more of the specifics for each product below the table.

1. Food Chopper: KitchenAid Cordless 5-Cup Mini Food Chopper

It might seem silly to cut the cord with an appliance that sits on the counter, but having a self-contained unit that you can just pick up and move to a new spot or even throw in a bag for transport just feels so liberating. Of course, that’s no reason to compromise on quality.

I love this model because it’s so compact and convenient, but it still chops as well or better than most food choppers—even the ones with cords. It only takes up a space of about 6 inches x 6 inches on the counter, and it’s a little over 10 inches tall. It has a really simple interface that will even appeal to non-techies like myself, and it has two speeds for coarse or fine chopping, as well as a pulse option.

It has a wet ingredient opening in the lid, and the five-cup capacity is large enough to mix, chop, stir, or whisk all your favorite sauces, soups, and dips. The device also looks great with its sleek gray finish, and all the parts are dishwasher-safe so it’s easy to keep clean.

2. Hand Mixer: KitchenAid 7-Speed Hand Mixer

Since a hand mixer is one of the few mechanical kitchen appliances you have to actually hold in the air during use, it’s especially nice to go cordless with. This one in specific is great because:

  • It has a strong motor, unlike most cordless hand mixers. 250 watts is enough to mix, beat, whip or whisk even thicker batters.
  • It has seven mixing speeds, which is more than most competitors. Speed 1 is good for mixing in chunky solid ingredients and speed 7 excels at making whipped cream or merengues.
  • It has a nice sturdy feel, unlike many wireless hand mixers. It’s also heavier than some, but the added weight feels good in your hand.
  • The soft start feature actually succeeds at gradually increasing up to the chosen speed, which I can’t say for many hand mixers, cordless or not.
  • It has a really comfortable ergonomic handle.
  • It’s only $70, which is amazing for a cordless hand mixer.

3. Immersion Blender: KitchenAid Variable-Speed Cordless Hand Blender

An immersion blender is another device that you have to hold while using, so a cordless model is extremely important. For those who don’t know, an immersion blender is basically a handheld rod that you stick into a mixture (like a smoothie, most commonly) and can turn on using a button near the grip. A spinning blade on the end creates a suction vortex and chops up the ingredients in the mixture.

This model is powerful and comes with a lot of extras that make it a great buy. Not only does it include the blender arm standard on immersion blenders, but it also has a whisk arm that you can use for more delicate mixtures. It includes a chopping bowl attachment too, as well as a blending container you can use to hold the recipes you use the blender for.

The immersion blender has a few variable speeds and a light on the base that shows when the battery is low. You can charge the battery enough to make a smoothie in 20 minutes, or all the way (enough to make 25 smoothies) in 2 hours.

4. Electric Knife: Waring Cordless Electric Knife

Even the sharpest serrated knives can take a while to cut through rock hard foods like thick meats or particularly stubborn artisan breads, so having an electric knife is a huge relief sometimes. It’s important to hold a knife totally level for cutting, though, and having a cord weighing down one side can make that difficult. That’s why a cordless knife is so important.

This model includes two blades. One specializes in carving and one specializes in cutting bread, and they are easy to switch out. They are both super-sharp and save a ton of time and energy compared to manual cutting when dealing with hard foods.

Cutting with the razorlike blades would be scary, in fact, if it were not for the handle that places your hand a good six inches above and behind them when held. The handle is really comfortable too, providing a nice ergonomic grip. The whole device comes in a nifty carrying case with plenty of room to store everything.

5. Electric Kettle: Cuisinart Cordless Electric Tea Kettle

An electric kettle is great not only for making a quick glass of tea, but also for boiling water to use in recipes. A wireless model is a nice plus, especially for those with big kitchens or those who’d like to store the kettle while it’s not in use.

Unlike most electric kettles, this one is powerful and heats up fast. With 1500 watts, it will boil water in less than 100 seconds most of the time. It also looks incredible, with a gleaming stainless steel finish and a glowing blue water window that honestly looks like something from a sci-fi movie. It has a 1.7 liter capacity, which I think is just perfect – not too big, not too small.

6. Cordless Vacuum: Dyson V11 Animal Cordless Vacuum

Cleanup is most people’s least favorite part of the cooking process, so having a heavy-duty vacuum that you can use on any surface is a gigantic stress-reliever. Dragging around a cord with you while you’re vacuuming is just a pain, though, and this model is the best way to cut that cord without compromising on cleaning efficiency.

The Dyson V11 is expensive, but it is just packed with features. Perhaps most important to chefs, though, are the facts that:

  • You can detach the bottom of the vacuum cleaner to create a shorter vacuum perfect for sucking up debris on dirty counters.
  • It has 2x the suction power of any other cordless vacuum, making it great at sucking up any kind of debris even if it is stuck to the surface you’re cleaning.
  • It can detect the surface you’re cleaning and automatically adjusts the suction accordingly.
  • Emptying the debris bin on the vacuum is easy and hygienic, thanks to the bin’s detachable tube design.
  • It cleans 99.7% of dust and food particles, even microscopic ones down to 0.3 microns in size.

Just Say No To Cords

I personally own all of these devices—I told you I’m a total nerd when it comes to cordless kitchen appliances. And now when I use a device that does have a cord, it really does seem like a huge inconvenience. One day, cords will hopefully be a thing of the past. Until then, join me in the kitchen of the future!
