This is my very, very favorite cookie recipe.
In fact, I think it’s the best Chocolate Chip Cookie Recipe.
I know, I know– you probably already have a best Chocolate Chip Cookie recipe that you like to use.
And that’s ok. I know people are kind of crazy opinionated about this.
You don’t have to convert today.
Just tuck this recipe away safely on a pin board somewhere to use later.
And when that rainy day comes, and you’re craving a simple, perfect, classic chocolate chip cookie– one that you don’t have to wait for chill-time or find fancy chocolate for– you can pull this one out and fall in love with it then.
Because you will. And oh, how you will.
This is also my very favorite cookie base for more fanciful recipes.
I’ve used it in making all of these:
Classic Chocolate Chip Cookies
Ingredients
- 1/2 c butter or margarine
- 1/2 c shortening
- 1 c brown sugar
- 1/2 c sugar
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 2 1/2 c flour
- 2 c large milk chocolate chips
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients, except chocolate chips, in stand mixer using the paddle attachment. Mix until a smooth dough forms.
- Add chocolate chips and mix until incorporated.
- Scoop by generous tablespoons onto a parchment lined baking sheet.
- Bake at 375º for 9-10 minutes. Let cool on pan.
*Don’t substitute semi-sweet chips for the Milk Chocolate chips unless you have a serious aversion to milk chocolate! It totally changes the outcome of the cookie! And buying big chips makes a difference too– I like to use Guittard or Ghiardelli.

I do have a favorite of my own, but would love to try this one soon…like, right after breakfast :) And most definitely with large milk chocolate chips – love the size of those things! It’s been fun, thanks for organizing the Re-do.
I haven’t got a go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe yet. Maybe this is it! Pinned for future use. :)
Can’t wait to give this a try. I need a good cookie base :) Thanks for organizing the hop!!
The Farm Girl
I love Guittard. Best. Chips. Ever. These cookies look awesome! Thanks for the recipe and the awesome Hop Ashton!
Your cookies look terrific! I agree large chips are the way to go. Great pics! Thanks for sharing.
Oh girl, this looks like a perfect cookie. LOVE Guittard chocolate. Mmmmm. Now I think I’d like to go bake cookies…
Oooooh girl, this looks scrumptious! I am always on the hunt for chocolate chip cookie recipes since mine are always so goofy looking when they exit the oven. I heard adding shortening and butter makes them more tender and yummiful, so I will definitely give this a try :) and thanks for hosting the awesome Blog Hop!!
I agree with you on this being the best choc chip cookie recipe…mine is almost the same recipe!!! The cookies look great, although I’m a dark choc freak so I go that way! Now I want to bake cookies, but I can’t:-(
Oh don’t be putting frown faces that you can’t bake cookies right now! You are at the beach you lucky girl!!
Haha!!!! Yes the beach and Florida trumps baking:-)
I also have a “best chocolate chip cookie recipe” that I use and love. Funny how we get attached but I love semi-sweet chips only. Thanks for the fun!
Ashton, these cookies look fantastic! Literally almost perfect. I’d love to participate in a blog hop in the future if you need an extra blogger. :)
I just made chocolate chip cookies last night. It was part of my wedding vows to make them every other month. Weird right? I hate chocolate chips, but I love to bake. I never make chocolate chip cookies and my poor husband loves them. Since I can’t stand to taste them, I am never sure if I’ve found the best recipe. I will have to add this to my “give it a try” list. So far he has liked every recipe I have tried, but none of them have been “the one.”
No matter how many new treats I come up with, chocolate chip cookies always get me! These look just loke my recipe except I use all butter. I love seing other peoples favorite cookies! Yum!
Still looking for my go-to chocolate chip cookie recipe… might these be it?? Are these chewy?
I have gotten bored with my chocolate chip cookie recipe so i am all up for trying your recipe. They look so soft and chewy :)
These look delicious…so soft and chewy! Thanks so much for sharing at Mix it up Monday :)
