Party Popcorn Saturday (on Wednesday): Animal Cracker Popcorn

Party Popcorn, by Ashton Swank

I’m way overdue for another installment of Party Popcorn Saturday!!

Except… of course… this is a Wednesday. Sorry about that. With all the hub-bub of the holidays and traveling and being pregnant-sick, the recipe I meant to post last Saturday sort of got lost in the mix. So here we are, mid-week, and I’m making it up to you! You’ll have to (please) forgive my tardiness :)

This Animal Cracker Popcorn is easy to make and a total crowd pleaser! From the Party Popcorn Cookbook

Ok, so just to re-cap the gist of Party Popcorn Saturdays… over the course of 5 weeks, I’m sharing with you 5 of my favorite recipes from my new book, Party Popcorn, AND a special giveaway item that coordinates with each recipe.

But don’t get confused here– the giveaway isn’t actually today. Come back on January 13 for that! I’ll be giving away 5 super-sweet items (including a Kitchen Aid Stand Mixer!!) that all coordinate with one of my favorite recipes. And I’m drawing FIVE winners! Better odds for winning, y’all :)

So……. the recipe I’m sharing with you today is for Animal Cracker Popcorn. This recipe is my top most favorite photographed recipe in the book (fabulous photography by Jason Wyche)! I’m seriously in love with it. In fact, it was my personal vote for the cover image. But instead… I had it framed and hung it in my office :) Love it.

It also happens to be a family favorite taste-wise. My family even added actual frosted animal crackers to the mix on New Years Eve– which is just twice the fun and twice the yum!

As for the coordinating giveaway item… what could be more appropriate than Pink Frosted Animal Cracker Shower Gel & Bubble Bath? Seriously. How cute is this??!

Don’t forget… enjoy the recipe today, and then come back on January 13 to enter to win this shower gel plus 4 other awesome prizes, including a signed copy of Party Popcorn for each winner. And if you just can’t wait to enter the giveaway to check out the book, I understand. You can purchase Party Popcorn on Amazon, IndieBound, and at Barnes & Noble.

And don’t forget to watch for the LAST Party Popcorn Saturday post at the end of this week!

Ingredients:

8 cups popped popcorn

1 cup pink melting candy

1/4 cup rainbow-colored nonpareils

Directions:

Pour the popcorn into a large bowl and remove any unpopped kernels.

Melt the pink melting candy according to the manufacturer's instructions on the package.

Pour the melted candy over the popcorn. Use a large rubber spatula to gently stir to coat. Sprinkle the nonpareils over the popcorn and gently toss to coat.

Spread the popcorn on a large piece of parchment paper or a large non-stick silicone baking mat.

Allow to cool until the candy coating has hardened, about 20 minutes. Break into pieces before packaging or transferring to a large bowl to serve.

  1. Um, yes, please! This looks fabulous! And that body wash is too perfect!

  2. Way too adorbs…I love the idea of throwing in some animal cookies along with the popcorn–Yum! Perfect chick movie night snack! :)

  3. I’m with you on how pretty this looks, Ashton. And I love how it doesn’t actually have any of the animal crackers in it since that’s a US thing.

And of course the sprinkles make me happy.

By the way, how do you normally pop your corn? A popcorn maker or in the saucepan with oil? A popcorn maker is on my list, but I’m wondering if the oil would interfere with the taste in the meantime.

  4. This is so pretty and cute and clever and I know I would gobble it right up. You’re never too old for frosted pink animal crackers is my thought! :)

  5. This. Is. AMAZING.

So stealing this idea and making something for my best. She’s obsessed with those frosted animal cookies.

  6. This is such a fun recipe! It would be great for kids (and me)!
